Our Family Law Attorneys Have Education & Experience for Financial Matters
There are a number of potential financial issues that come up in divorce and child custody cases. In a divorce case, the judge is required to determine the value of marital assets and debts in order to fairly divide the property. It is the responsibility of the litigants to give the judge the appropriate information necessary for valuing the assets. In divorce and child custody cases, each parent's income must be established as well. These issues can become complicated in a number of scenarios, including where one or both parties are self-employed or executives with various types of compensation.
Our family law attorneys prioritize financial knowledge in order to fully advise each client throughout our representation. In 2019, Danya Bundy attended the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers' Institute for Family Law Associates. The Institute is a multi-day comprehensive program covering divorce financial and tax issues, including how to read and interpret 1040s, 1120s, and corporate financial statements, and the basics of business valuation and retirement assets in divorce. Aaron Bundy and Kathleen Egan have each completed the Advanced Business Valuation seminar at the National Family Law Trial Institute. The Advanced Business Valuation seminar involves an in-depth examination of business valuations in a family law matter. Topics of discussion include relevant IRS Rulings and other professional standards, the standard of value and appraisal approaches, trial strategies, and the role of the financial expert, and specific discovery needs for business valuations.
Additionally, each attorney is a member of the American Academy of Certified Financial Litigators, which provides its members with members with training in the financial aspects of litigation, including accounting, taxation, income, valuation, compensation and investments.
Aaron Bundy and Danya Bundy were recently recognized by Best Lawyers and its companion, Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch, respectively, for their work in family law. As part of their recognition, they were featured together in Best Lawyers' 2021 Litigation publication. The Best Lawyers in America is the oldest peer review publication in the legal industry. Their lists are compiled based on an exhaustive peer review evaluation process. Attorneys are not required or allowed to pay a fee to be listed, so inclusion in Best Lawyers is considered a significant honor.
